Explore London by foot

Often the distances on the London Tube map can be quite deceiving. What looks like it’s miles away from somewhere else, could actually just be a brisk ten-minute walk.

If you explore London by foot, you’ll see some sights you’d definitely miss out on travelling around on the Underground. Another great thing is it’s a healthier way to get around and you don’t have to spend too much time getting on and off a sweaty Tube.

You definitely need to pack some mens waterproof jackets in your bag if you’re walking around though – especially in autumn, London weather is extremely unpredictable.

Some of the best walks to do in the capital are near the various waterfronts around the city. You can walk along the River Thames all the way from Waterloo to London Bridge, stopping in some of the great pubs along the way. You’ll be able to check out some famous sights along the way, such as Borough Road Market, and it’s a great way to fill your day.

There are some really historic sights you can visit if you walk around London as well. You can start out at Monument – a memorial to the Great Fire of London – heading down Pudding Lane first. From there, you’ll be able to head to Old Billingsgate Fish Market, Custom House and past St Magnus the Martyr Church, all of which have played a key role in the history of the English capital.

If royalty draws you to London, you can explore everything from the world-famous Westminster Abbey to Buckingham Palace by foot. They’re not too far a walk from one another and you’ll be able to see some impressive spectacles, such as the Changing of the Guard, if you make the trip.

All you need to walk around London is some decent shoes, waterproof jackets for all your friends and family and a good temperament – it may get a bit rainy and cold during the autumn!
